Keeping you signed in to your books
When you unlock a volume, a cookie holds that unlock so the book stays open on your device. It is required for the reader to work, and it disappears when it expires or when you close your library.
Remembering your preferences
Your reading mode, text size and place in a book are stored in your browser, not on our servers.
Analytics
Only after you accept. Decline and none of it loads — no identifier is set, and nothing is sent to Google.
Separately, we keep a plain count of how many times each page was opened, so we know whether anyone is reading. That count stores nothing on your device and holds no identifier: it is a running total per page, per day, per country, and two people on the same page are indistinguishable in it. It is not a cookie, and it is not affected by the choice above.
